Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Review Online Games, October 29, 2007The game's namesake - the Phantom Hourglass - comes into play in the temple you have to explore to move forward in the game. The sand in the hourglass represents your life - life that gets slowly drained away bit by bit whenever you aren't standing in one of the temple's 'Safe Zones'. Basically, this means that each temple works like a timed puzzle as your life force slowly slides away, but with the added bonus of being able to stop, catch your breath, and strategize your next move without having to worry about the clock all the time.
The temples are also the locations of the game's battle minigame, which can be played against the computer or with a friend. In this game, you take turns playing either Link or the temple guards. Link's goal is to pick up triforce pieces from around the map and bring them back to his base. The goal of the guards, of course, is to smash Link...

...In terms of mechanics, the game plays like X-Men Legends, only from a third-person rather than top down perspective. In other words, the game looks good and seems like it SHOULD be fun (again, how hard is it?), but it feels like you've done this before and with a better game to boot. You control one of the Fantastic Four (for those of you who don't know, choosing between Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Girl, The Thing, or The Human Torch) at a time and can switch back and forth between characters on the fly.
...The Wii version is similar on most fronts, except it's played from a more top down perspective (making it look a lot like the X-Men legends games) with (obviously) inferior graphics to the Xbox 360 and PS3. They try to make up for this by using the motion control system, which creates the interesting paradox of a motion control button masher! Just keep waggling. Really, with the Wii controller and nunchuck the game becomes even more tedious...
